Every golden retriever owes somebody a tennis ball.

Ballpark is the payments app for golden retrievers. Split a stick, settle a debt, request your ball back from Murphy. Every transaction posts to a public feed, because no golden retriever has ever wanted privacy.

Ballpark is not a bank. Balls are held in a pooled custodial yard. Sticks are an unregulated asset and are not covered by anything.

How the money moves

Three features, each of which passed review by a committee of dogs who were also, at the time of review, eating the committee's notes.

Visible to everyone, including the cat

A public feed of everything

Every payment posts to a feed the whole dog park can read. Our research team asked 2,400 golden retrievers about privacy settings. All 2,400 wagged. We removed the settings.

Split by the centimetre

Split the stick

Two dogs, one stick. Ballpark splits ownership to the centimetre and sends a payment request to whichever dog is currently chewing the other end.

Median stick: 61 cm½ each
Under 4 seconds, squirrels aside

Instant settlement, mostly

Balls arrive in under four seconds unless the recipient sees a squirrel, in which case the transfer is pending indefinitely. Ballpark does not insure against squirrels. Nobody does.

From the public feed

We did not ask permission to quote these. Under the Ballpark terms of service, we did not have to.

Murphy, a golden retriever with a tennis ball in his mouth

Murphy, Head of Fetch Operations, back garden of 14 Linden Ave

I have paid Biscuit back the same ball nine times. He has not noticed. Neither have I.
Penny, a cream-coloured golden retriever

Penny, Senior Correspondent, Elm Street Off-Leash Area

The public feed is how I found out Rosie had been paying Duke in sticks since March. I have screenshots.
Cooper, a red golden retriever wearing a navy tie

Cooper, Chief Ball Officer (self-appointed), rear seat of a 2011 Volvo

I requested a ball from my owner. He gave me the ball. I requested it again. Ballpark processed both without judgement.

Pricing, in dollars, which your dog does not have

Billing goes to the human whose card is on file. The dog chooses the tier. This has caused some friction.

  • Your payments pinned to the top of the feed for a week
Talk to the labrador

Overdrafts are recovered by the concierge, who will follow your dog around the park until a ball is surrendered. Recovery rates are excellent. The concierge has been asked to stop.

Murphy has already sent you a ball

It is pending. He saw a squirrel. Open the app to watch the feed, split a stick or request your ball back from somebody who has, frankly, had it long enough.
