Peer-to-peer settlement · retired thoroughbreds

Every horse owes
another horse
something.

Furlong settles debts between retired racehorses and posts the result to the paddock feed within four seconds. There is no private mode. There was going to be one.

Available in nine states and one province. Oats settled at Tuesday's rate.

What the product does to you

Visibility

Public by default, permanently

Each settlement posts to the feed the whole barn reads: payer, payee, amount, memo. The visibility toggle exists in the settings screen and has never once changed anything. We left it in because removing it required a migration.

Splitting

Split by distance travelled

Furlong divides a shared bill by how far each horse walked to reach the thing being paid for, measured in furlongs, rounded up. The horse nearest the hay pays least. This has restructured the social order of nine separate farms and we are watching closely.

Access

Hoof ID

Biometric authentication from a single front hoof pressed to the reader plate. Median time to authenticate is 41 minutes, most of which is convincing the horse. Once in, the session lasts eleven months.

“I paid Comanche back for the farrier in March and the feed has shown it every day since. He has liked it forty times. I understand this is the product working.”
